There was a show on the military channel not too long ago that told of the Japanese using the 30 cal machine guns they captured on Guam to defend the island later.

I have seen two Type 99 shorts with a threaded hole in the butt and what appears to be oxidation (or lack there of) where the butt was attached to a bracket of some sort. Any idea what these are?

I thought about the reversed image, but the other rifles were right handed. I'll have to watch it again.
