I have been handed down a rifle with a bit of a story which is irrelevant but I am curious as to what the markings mean on it because they do not correlate with any information i have come across. It looks like it is a Type 38 but it has a five pointed star on the receiver instead of the mum. No other markings either. The serial number starts with D followed up by four other numbers and they all match throughout the gun.

Your rifle is a type 38 training rifle. The give away is the lack of mum and type markings or "shiki" and a star or other logo in their place. The serial number having a letter is also indicative of a trainer, though not all trainers have such a letter. I cannot offer any info as to the maker of the rifle, jusy not my expertise.

Welcome to the forum! Please see the Training Rifle Datasheets and fill one out and send to Chip Goddard, he should be able to answer any questions you have. Trainers are quite interesting and have lots of variations. So far, they are still pretty cheap too, so you can build a nice collection of them for very little money. Trey

Fill out a Japanese Rifle Datasheet.
I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!
