Was it common for monopod equiped type 99s to have some damage to the stock at the hinge point for the monopod, or is this generally indicitave of a repro monopod installation.

As an aside, how does one remove the rear barrel band from a type 99 without removing either the barrel or the front sight?

Thanks

Generally there is a darkening of the stock at the rear band, and impression of the loops at the front band area of the wood. Sometimes the pods were fitted wrong and will scar the wood terribly at the front band, original pod or not. If you have an 'A' front sight (see type 99 datasheet only option is to remove front sight. If you have any of the others, the bands will slide over the front sight, you'll just have to work with it. 'A' front sight found on series' 0, 1, 2 through about 4000, 20,21,22, 30, 31 through upper part of 65,000, with a few 32nd series mid 50,0000, and few in the early 37th. Hope that helps. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!
