I have a Smith and Wesson, model 1 1/2 that has Japanese Markings on the right side of the barrel, forward of the cylinder.

Attempts to translate the kanji shown below (twice in normal and reverse)have resulted in a partial translation of '#460 Wakayama Prefecture'.

J Hawk can you translate it any further, or show me what the characters translate to for labeling on my display table? Thanks, Trey

'#460 Wakayama Prefecture'----It is correct.

Top two kanji are also animal symbols/zodiac signs.
A pronunciation as special as MIZUNOE-SARU is done.
MIZUNOE-SARU year was --- 1812/1872/1932/----.
I guess that year when the Kanji was carved is 1872(Meiji 5th year) .
The clan-system was abolished and because having changed into the new prefecture-system was 1871.

Thanks

J Hawk, thank you very much. I was hoping there was a date somewhere. Thanks again, Trey
