Looks like a calvary carbine with a mauser looking stock to fit a mauser type bayonet in 7.62 x 39 caliber.

Let me re-phase, what do the makings on top of the receiver in the picture mean? The rifle is a Chinese copy of a T38 Calvary Carbinee. riceone.

riceone, Smile

I saw the makings of the rifle for the first time.
There was no image though it searched for the web site in Taiwan.

The Kanji is a zodiac signs/animal symbols.
In Japan, the zodiac signs is used for the date of the sword.

The same Kanji is repeated at 60 years cycles.
In a Chinese pronunciation La-Si-Shi.
La-Si is the year indicated. shi is Type.
Correspondence Years to La-Si ----1821/1881/1941/2001/-----.
I think that 1941 is the best in these.
That is, Type-1941. Or Type-la si. (my guess)
Thanks

Thanks J Hawk, Since it is in 7.62 x 39 I would think it is a rework. The magazine has a block at the rear so it was originally made like a 6.5 x 50. I think I got it in the 80's. riceone.

The link was gone when I looked also. Did anyone get the serial number?
I have only a very small number in my file for these rifles.
