Here are a couple of sword knots, can anyone tell me what they are for?

It appears to me to be a standard NCO sword knot. Tracy

Tracy, thanks, my sword books don't go in to much detail about the knots. Trey

Trey, According to Fuller and Gregory's book, Military swords of Japan, these tassels can also be found on Meiji period police swords and also some Police parade sabres. Hope this helps. The last NCO sword knot I saw sold for $200. I didn't note where it was at, but I think it was on Ebay. Tracy

Tracy, thanks for the update, I couldn't figure out what to price them at, so I just listed them both on ebay. If I could take better care of leather, I'd probably have kept them. Thanks again, Trey

This is how the one with a buckle was used.

The Cav. saber used a knot without the buckle

As mentioned above there were other applications. These knots could be a whole area of study!

Rob, thanks much, that's what I'd needed to see. Having second thoughts about listing them now. Trey

They are sometimes very pricy on e-bay. Great if you want to sell - sucks if you want to buy!
