Hi all, great site with a ton of info!

I just received a Type 38 from a family acquaintance. I think that I'm reading it right...

Type 38

How do I tell that?

The story I got was the guy I got it from was on Guadalcanal and grabbed it after killing the owner. He somehow got it back to the states and it’s been in his basement until he recently passed away. I have no way to verify this of course, but that’s what his wife said…

It's in great shape, even the ammo pouch is fully loaded (I assume original ammo too). Sounds like he never fired it state-side.

Nice looking rifle, 'matching' would mean do the last three digits of the serial number match the last three digits on the bolt, safety knob, firing pin, floorplate, and dust cover. The stock has been refinished at some point. But other than that, a very nice rifle and grouping! Original ammo, original sling, front ammo pouch, dust cover, all you need is an original cleaning rod. Trey

Umm, your bayonet lug (front band) is on upside down....Flat part of bayonet lug should be on the butt side (away from the muzzle).

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!
