There is mention in Frank Allan's excellent book The Type 38 Arisaka of two Type 44 carbines reworked in to a Type 38 Carbine configuration and marked and reissued as a training rifle. This one was at the TMCA Show, there were not very many people at the show that recognized it for what it was.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

I have one almost exactly like it, SN S 909. I have a reference that indicates the "S" serial number prefix means the rifle was obsoleted specifically for youth training use.

That's something to watch for that most would pass off as a bubba job.
Just curious - does a T-30 bayonet work on it? _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |

Chip, appreciate the confirmation!
Rob, I have not tried a standard Type 30 bayonet yet, I meant to the other night and something came up (a 4 year old with a crisis) and I never got back to it. I believe it will though. I'll let you know for sure tonight. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
