Here are some more pictures of the Mexican Type 38 that turned up at TMCA. The Mexican Contract Type 38 is one of the harder to find production/contract rifles. I have seen more Siamese Type 66 rifles than I have Mexican Contract Rifles.
The most noticeable feature to me is the length of the barrel extending past the front sight. The sling has aluminum fittings, and appears to have been on there are very long time. No import marks, the only matching numbers are extractor and safety, with another number on the and receiver and rear sight (prefix and last 2). All parts appear to be Mexican contract parts, the dust cover is un-numbered but has the same inspection marks as found on the other parts. The rod is numbered and other than the rounded fullers of a lightly refinished stock (inspection marks are still visible) the rifle should clean up very well. Rifles from the M series appear to have the highest survival rate according the Mr. Allan's fine work, The Type 38 Arisaka.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

Here are some images of an M Series rifle from my collection. It has no Mexican receiver crest, only the Tokyo Arsenal symbol on the barrel step. The serial number is oddly-placed and has no inspection markings following. It's in almost arsenal new condition.
