What information can you share about this gun I bought in a garage sale years ago? I know it is 6.5 Japanese type 38. I bought a box of ammo and fired a few rounds through it after I bought it but have since had it sitting in the closet.

Welcome to the forum, pretty neat carbine. Its a Type 38 carbine, a 5th series Type 38 Carbine produced by Nagoya Arsenal. Produced in the late 30's early 40's. Please fill out a Type 38 datasheet and send to Frank Allan. It's been sporterized a bit, but nothing thats not repairable. Frank should be along, he will fill in the details. Indeed the carbine is a 5th Series manufactured by the Nagoya Army Arsenal in 1941. It is one of 100,000 in that series. These are very popular carbines and although this one has been "sporterized" which hurts is value, it can be restored if you are interested in a little project.
