My mother-in-law gave me an old Arisaka that was given to her husband by his brother-in-law after WWII. B-I-L was a Marine pilot with the VMF-212 at Guadalcanal. We don't know where he actually got the rifle, but its got the Mum and mismatched barrel/bolt. Nagoya Series 0, 34211 receiver, 682 bolt, missing the handguard/barrel bands/sling. Any ideas on value?

Welcome to the forum. Great history on the rifle, something like that should stay in the family. The numbers on the bolt should match the last three digits of the serial number, the number on the barrel, is probably a separate assembly number that would be found on the bottom of the receiver and also on the bottom of the barrel.

Your rifle would have been produced around 1940/1941, Value is hard when pieces are missing and when not in original finish condition, at that point value is relegated to the sum of the remaining parts. Sometimes, refinishing does more harm than good. I'd guess $100 to $200, however restored it would be priceless to a relative. Thanks for posting. Trey

Would it help the value if we found replacement barrel bands, handguards and sling? I saw that some of the items would total more than the rifle is worth.

It would help for display purposes, or to a family member, but as a package, it would still be 'sum of the parts'. But, it would be worth 'restoring' as a family keepsake or shooter. You would probably come out cheaper buying an entire shooter grade rifle that had the parts that you needed. Trey
