Gun show find today. Is this a series 3?

If so, then why is the finish so rough? I thought at first that the mum was lightly struck

but after I got it home, I noticed that it was covered in special acceptance stamps

And many others.

The bluing is very weak and the over finish is rough on the receiver, barrel (with and A7? stamped on it). The bolt doesn't match the rifle, but does match itself and is generally consistent with the rifle condition. The features are early, consistent with a series 3, but the workmanship and special acceptance marks makes me wonder what's up (or was up) with it.

Yes, it's a 3rd Series and well-worn at that. The mum has been lightly filed.

Thanks Chip! We were camping. I agree with Chip, just a well used rifle and lightly filed, or ground mum. Those are normal inspecition marks, the rifle has much character, but it' nothing out of the ordinary....Thanks for posting and be sure to send a datasheet when you can. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

That's what I thought when I bought it - just not too sure of myself. I was just very surprised to see so many marks throughout it when I took the stock off. I guess it's a sign of still being early with so many inspections and every inspector making his point.

Nice bore - carried around but not too much action.

Sheet's on it's way.

Thanks
