Today as I was working on a cut away 99 for Doss I milled the front 1/4 of the bolt head away and in the groove for the ejector I found a vent hole that extended to right where the firing pin protrudes through the front of the bolt face. It would exhaust right into the vent hole on top of the receiver. I'm probably the only one who did not know it was there. _________________ Most people who preach tolerance are very intolerate. |

You are not the only one. I may have noticed it years ago but sure forgot about it until you mentioned it and I had to go look again!!!! Thanks for pointing it out.

It's one of those things you see, realize what it is, and then forget to bring it up. If we started a recorder at every 'get together' and transcribed the printable parts to read over and act one.....But if a bullfrog had wings...
I would be interested in trying to create a rupture primer scenario on a bench and see if we could catch the results of the diffusion of the gases through the vent hole and back of the bolt at safety. Is that something we could actually create? _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

I believe if a firing pin tip was lengthened, it would pierce the primer for the same results. Just guessing as I am not a machinist. Or perhaps just glue a small rifle primer in the primer pocket and when hit by the regular length firing pin, the pressure would blow the entire primer out. Again, just a guess. |

guess that was something Id never really looked at ,til now, or if I had Id said thats cool, well engineered and promptly forgot,so either way I know it again now...A recorder at get togethers might be a bad idea,Trey,LOL...hate for them to surface when Shannon is up for "Dare I say???? A Cabinet post!!!!" . or something |
