I recieved a gun from my uncle that was in WWII in the navy.I think it is a type 99 Arisaka.I can find no ser.#'s other than a Slant top T with the number 6 on each side and these markings our on the side of the works under the stock. Also there is a stamp on the but stock that I was told is chinese and say's "you may keep this rifle in time of peace".The rifle is 50 inches long with no other markings any idea what I have?

I'd guess a trainer, if you can post a picture we can tell better. Generally 1 hole in the top of the receiver (gas port) is a 99 Style, 2 holes is 38 Style. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Thanks and it has only 1 hole. This gun has been caried around for years in our family and I'm trying to put it back together and am looking forward to shooting it. I did read something about barrel or breach issues with the ones made near the end of the war?.I will post pictures later.
thanks for your help

I have just found out that I have a type 99 long trainer and that standard type 99 parts will not work,Does anyone know where I can get parts for this rifle? I need the floor plate and spring, the 2 screws thst hold the triger guard to the woorks and a complete bolt. Also does this rifle shoot a 7.7 round?

It normally shoots a 6.5 gallery round or blank, not live ammunition. You'll have to keep an eye out for trainer parts, even parts from an identical rifle may not fit. I'll drop Seinen a line and see what he has to add. Trey

The slant T is the kana character for i or 1, I would guess that on this particular run the number is read right to left, being 1-66, or 66 of the first series, this is just a guess though.

Per my earlier email, you have a Type 99 long rifle trainer. I'm pretty sure this example was made by the Heirinkan Firearms KK, one of the makers of the so-called Type 99 Naval Special Rifles.

Normal Type 99 service rifle components probably won't fit your trainer. In fact, often trainer parts from the same maker aren't interchangebale.
