Here are the markings on a couple of Howa 9th series Japanese Type 99 Short Rifles.
The first one shows a double stamp for the Nagoya symbol in the Howa Jyuko Arsenal mark.
If I had to guess, I'd say someone had the wrong stamp in his hand...The NA mark is stamped where the Nagoya symbol usually goes. I'd think this indicates that the Stamper had the NA mark in his hand, realized his mistake after the fact and stamped around his error. To me this seems to indicate the order of stamping was left to right after the serial number as there is nothing where the normal NA inspection mark would be if the order were right to left. These 'little nothings' are kind of neat.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

I like the one with the inspection mark oops. Just goes to show that we all can have a bad day. |

Great photos! I appreciate your taking the time to post these. Reference books are great, but there is simply not sufficient space to put photos in like these.
I am working on a series of four articles for Banzai on the private contractors who made T-99s. More on that later. As part of that effort, does anyone have photos of a 4th Series Izawa rifle? I only have a 9th Series Izawa in my collection. Since they only made 10,000 rifles in the normally Nagoya 4th Series they are hard to find.

Chip, its a Nikon Coolpix P310 on auto. I can get them a little better if the rifle and camera are stationary instead of in my lap. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Trey,
Really excellent results for such a relatively inexpensive camera. Kudos!
