What is wrong with this rifle? Why? My thanks to Ronin48 and his son for furnishing this little pearl of the orient and allowing me to photograph it.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

It's obviously a post war guard weapon made for the Takehito BBQ and Sushi house. The BBQ is cooked on the skewer that folds under the barrel
while the carbine can be used on those that refuse to pay. Just ask me, I'll answer your question, though my answer may not go with your question.. _________________ Three million People, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us."

The receiver and the overall configuration do not match...

At first glance, this is a Nagoya 2nd series Type 44 carbine. However, after closer inspection - it technically isn't. It has a Type 38 receiver. But Nagoya didn't make 2nd series Type 38 carbines, or long rifles. So is it a Type 38 Carbine reworked to Type 44 Carbine configuration? Is it a Type 44 Carbine assembled with a Type 38 receiver? Too much sake in the lunch pail? A mistake? Intentional - from a left over or current 38 Carbine receiver? I dunno. I was pressed for time or I'd have taken more pictures, or possibly made arrangements to bring it home for closer examination.
Nagoya produced 0 (no series mark), 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th series Type 38 long rifles.
Nagoya made 0 (no series mark), 4th, 5th, and 6th series Type 38 Carbines. Their Type 44 carbine run was allotted to 0 (no series mark) and 2nd series Type 44 Carbines.
Nagoya reworked Tokyo Type 38 long rifles to short rifle configuration as well as just plain reworking some Type 38s, and Type 44s. They also reworked some early Tokyo and Kokura Type 44 carbines to later configuration bayonet housings. I have seen/handled a Type 38 long rifle that utilized a Type 44 marked receiver. I have also handled a Nagoya Type 38 carbine with a 27th series mark, classic 27th series colored metal (straw colors). For what it's worth, I have not seen any Type 2, 97, or 99 that I truly felt was a factory rework. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
