I have a T-38 carbine that looks absolutely correct and period, but has a one piece stock. The metal parts on the stock have matching assembly numbers although they don't match the number under the barrel or under the receiver, nor does the bolt match these numbers or the serial number. It is Nagoya, serial number 11227, and I can't quite make out the series mark. Any ideas about where this stock came from? Is it a navy stock or possibly a stock off of a Chinese copy?

I'd guess that that is a 5th series carbine, with a replaced stock. Whether it is Japanese or Chinese is up to interpretation. It's possible it is a replacement stock and hardware from an earlier tokyo carbine hence the mentioned assembly numbers. I don't believe 5th series stocks, or arsenal replacement ones, were numbered.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Indeed it appears to be a 5th Series Type 38 carbine with a replacement one-piece stock. I would guess that the stock is Chinese. Repos sling.

Thanks for posting.
