Hi There,

My dad got this rifle from my grandfather and said it was around as long as he could remember in their hunting cabin in Maine. It was given to him by a client back in the late 40s.

From what I could tell its a type 38? Made at the Kokura Arsenal?

It doesnt have the rear aircraft site but its an adjustable rear site. Its got no wood covering the top of the barrel which I thought perhaps it should?

Its got a but plate on the stock.

Would anyone be able to confirm what this is? Id like put dust cover on it and a sling and bayonet and leave as a nice wall hanger.. Barrel is in nice shape also.

Appreciate any help in identifying this!

Thanks!
Pat

Welcome to the forum, so sorry for the late reply. I have been out of pocket the last 3 weeks.
You rifle is a Tokyo (Koishikawa) Arsenal Type 38 long rifle. It is in 6.5x50 SR (6.5 Japanese) caliber. You're missing the dust cover and sling. The bare barrel forward of the handguard is normal for a 38 long rifle, so nothing missing there. An early bright blade, hooked guard bayonet from the same arsenal would be a nice touch. I can't exactly read the serial number, but I believe it is going to be post WWI manufacture with 4 groove rifling. I do not believe the bolt matches as it would have originally had a large tang safety, where your bolt safety has a notch. Overall a very nice gun, should be very pleasant to shoot. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!
