On one of the forums (getting too old to remember) someone replied to a post with lanyard sizes
5mm Baby Nambu
6mm T14
7mm T26
I recently got one which the seller said was 7mm and after I miked it I discovered it was 5mm. Tried to put it on my T14, but too tight and didn't want to break it. I'll never afford a Baby, so how rare is a Baby Nambu lanyard and what are they worth ? Also, is the above sizes correct and what size would fit the T94 ? Guess I could use it on my T26
Any answers

Derby - Brown indicate:
14 lanyards are 6mm (also mentions 7mm and 8mm in 94 section as being used on 14s) 34-39".
94 lanyards are 6mm or handmade from parachute shroud lines, rarely 7 or 8 mm.
baby lanyard is 5mm and listed at 41 cm, but I think that may be 41".
26 revolver is listed as being issued with a 7mm lanyard, but most often
found with a 6mm. Lengths are 26-38 inches.
If I find anything else out, I'll let you know. Some Type 14s have very small lanyard loops that standard lanyards won't fit in. Trey |

Thanks, Trey
I measured it again and its 5mm diameter X almost 40" long. I opened the calipers to 6 & 7mm and there was too much daylight between the lanyard and calipers. So, I guess I have a Baby lanyard on my hands.

Don, you very well could. If I had a baby I might know more about them. I forgot to ask george today, I'll ask him tomorrow. Value????? I'll check with Jim and Dan. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Here is the reply I got from Jim Brown, co-author of Japanese Military Cartridge Handguns.
Quote: | Trey, lanyards are tough unless you can examine them "in person," partly
because of variability in Japanese manufacture and use and partly because
there have been some very good reproductions marketed recently. If your
correspondent has a 5 mm lanyard made from tightly-woven cotton thread with
leather fittings, it is PROBABLY a Baby lanyard, and if so it is rare and
valuable. I haven't seen one sold recently, but would hazard a guess of
$500-$1,000 as its value, if in good shape. -Jim

It really boils down to whether or not it is original. As Jim said there are some very good 'reproductions' out there. Some are made with period parachute cord. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
