hi
i have a question about the different chrysanthemum markings on arisaka rifles. It's specially about the type of chrysanthemum with rings / round markings around the chrysanthemum blossoms. you find this type on the 38 datasheet as L.
somebody told me this round markings were made when the rifle left the japanese army. is that true?
thank you

Most overstrikes indicate removal from Military service. The circles around the inside of the outside edges of the mum (on 38s), are generally associated with those rifles taken out of service and sold to Thailand. However, this may not be correct in all cases, as I have one rifle with capture tag that has 8 circles (4 on upper half, and 4 on lower half) over the outside edges of the mum. Now it is possible that Japan bought/traded back the rifles during a later contract. I'll see what Frank says. Thanks for posting. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Here's a mum on OO 475126 that I mentioned earlier. Its not part of the Siamese/Thai order, all of those were from later series guns. Its a little different than the C and L designations on the 38 Datasheet.
