This subject was posted on the gunboards by Doss, I know you(Trey) don't go there anymore, so the question is- what do you know from your research?

Does such exist? Prototype or trial rifle? I seem to recall reading this somewhere, but where?

This would be a pretty easy rifle to fake, IMHO. Finding serial number 67 T-2 would be tough though.

Thanks for doing this site, it is great to be able to download the data sheets and have them print correctly.

See you in May.

I was spending 4-6 hours a day at work and home on gb, decided I'd just stick with this.

All I know about them is what's in MRoJ and I think I've read a few things in BANZAI over the years. I never really looked at the picture in MRoJ that closely until today. Some things about it bother me, I'd be hard pressed to make a decision without holding one and taking it apart.

My research is mainly 99 rifle datasheets, and I have nada on these birds, a little bit of data on the test 7.7 trials. I'll try and give it some thought in my free time, and draft my version of 'War and Peace' on the subject. Trey

Fill out a Japanese Rifle Datasheet.
I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Dave,

Rare is relative and experimental is a whole different collecting sphere. T-5 (Japaense Garands), Japanese Pedersen's etc... all command big dollars, they are more one of a kinds than rare. 12th series are rare, T66 Siamese Arisakas are rare, and Mexican Mausers are rare. Just depends on how you define it - for that matter "rare is the rifle I don't have in my collection".

I have to try to price this rifle and maybe sell it for the owner. I emailed the old master, Fred H. about it. He's seen it (so have I, but 20 years ago) it is gen-u-ine (Freds comment, not mine), but Fred thinks he remembers the stock has been refinished. If we get it to sell it will be disassembled and there will be photos of every markng in BANZAI. It may be that gwsiii will have the honor of posting it on G'Broker.

There is a photo of this or a similar T-2 somewhere, it maybe OTIR 19? This one is SN 6 and it seems like there was something in an early B'ZAI about another single didgit SN T-2 with a folding b'net???

I am to understand that this rifle is one of the "experimental type 2" rifles. They are different than normal T-2s, as their bolt handle is detachable like a type 100 paratrooper. There is one an hour north of me that I had the chance to examine 6 years ago. It was serial number 5, and didn't have the folding bayonet, that is not to say that folding bayonets are incorrect, as these are trully experimental and made in miniscule numbers. He had it for sale $15,000 and as recently as 2 years ago still had it. according to an aquaintance of mine he has had it since the early 90's and trying to pimp it at 10k. It was advertised in Banzai back in march 01 I believe.(other issues too but it is in this time span)

We will be cataloging and attempting to apprase this collection Monday-Wed and will get photos of the rifle, Trey can post. Don't know about the screw-off bolt handle, as noted earlier, haven't seen the rifle in several years.
