Just thought I would post some pics I have around of the 2 painted stock 99s I have. The first is a kokura 25th series 16k. the 2nd is a nagoya 7th series 80k. What have you guys got?

Alas, I don't own any rifle's with good clear markings like that. The majority of similarly marked rifles are in the 6th,7th, 24th and 25th series'. I'll try and get a better feeling for them and post what I can find when I get a chance. I've seen white, green, yellow, and red paints used on these markings, and they are normally on the right side of the stocks. Trey

I have this 9th series Izawa. The character has been translated to mean "assault".

I also have a mummed 42k 8th, that was numbered under forend. Key word being WAS. some one found it unsightly and removed it. I have had the rifle a couple years and only just noticed a couple months ago. You can just make out the "shadows" of the numbers.

The majority of the stock markings are found on 6th, 7th, both 9th, 24th, and 25th series rifles. They are mentioned in 8th, 10th, 11th, 33rd, 34th, and 40th series'. I don't have many descriptive notes on any kanji outside of Bobby's collection, what I do have shows the 31st series mark in a circle predominantly in the 6th series, numbers and or kanji in the 7th, 9th, 24th, and 25th. Most markings are in white paint, but yellow, green, and red have also been reported. Trey

Those are some of my favorite markings (the cirled kana) I've been looking for one for a while. The only one I've seen was a greasy type 38 tomato stake. I didn't buy it.

One of the 7th series I recently sold had faint white numbers on the right butt. I may have photos of it - I'll have to dig.
