Here's a small collection of Japanese Type 26 (Model of 1893) Revolvers and Holsters. Included in the photos are 3 of the 5 variations as listed in The Collector's Gude to Imperial Japanese Handguns 1893-1945 by James D. Brown.

standard production (variation 3 left) - standard production (variation 3 right)

Note sharp edges on metal, early light stamped markings (left), heavy stamped markings (right)

early production (variation 2 arsenal/type markings only)

early arsenal rebuild (variation 5)

Beautiful guns,Trey, I really like those non-external serialed ones.....do you happen to have one, in chrome with a snub barrel and bone or pearl grips..Just kidding ,you have a excellent collection of Pistols.

There's something about the T-26 that I've always liked. It's an odd design but they were beautifully made. I just have one example and it's one of my favorites.

Adogs, the accessories really make the display, that's a beautiful set up you have there, thanks for posting! Trey

Thanks Trey. That's an old photo & I've since added the correct leather tassles to those swords. Now, if I could just find an early shoulder strap for that holster!

The Type 26s are my favorite Japanese handguns also. These are wonderful photos from you both. Thanks for posting them.

Trey/Adogs can you check your Type-26's and see if any of them carry the "yo" inspection mark? Really interested in knowing if the internally marked one has it. Just kind of looking at something that I've stumbled on. Been asking around to a few collectors and owners of Type-26's the same question and so far only a couple carry the "yo" mark and all that do are internally serial number marked, however some internally marked ones do not. Have no idea what this will tell me but we'll see.

Type 14:

I don't own this, but T-26 with no external serial number, which is serialed internally 847, has only one small inspection stamp. It is "u" (T-38 book page 44) on the trigger guard only. No other inspection stamps appear anywhere on the pistol. The pistol is in virtually mint condition.

Dale, where is the 'yo' mark located on the pistols, and does HCIJ II have 'yo' listed somewhere or will it be in the Type 38 book? Trey

It also happens to be on the same page as "u" - page 44 in the T-38 book.

At the time of publication of the book I did not know that the "u" was used by the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal prior to its being used by the Tokyo 2nd Army Arsenal. Since publication I have noted several stamps used later by other arsenals that were originally used by the TAA. Makes sense I guess.

The "yo" stamp appears prominently on the outside of a pistol of which I have seen a photo. On another pistol, its stamped internally.

Attached are the two photos that Frank is talking about. The one that is on the outside is from #766 and the other belongs to another collector. So as you can see they could be in about any location.

That's what I needed. Will try and look it over tonight. Trey

Dale, I checked all of them, the internal #'d (2nd variation type/arsenal marks only) 530 only had the 'ke' (lazy 'k') above and to the left of internal #, and a '-'(one) after the serial number. None had the 'yo' mark. Sorry, Trey

Most of the holsters have different stampings/inspection marks, the clearest markings on any of them are below. It appears to be dated showa 16 (1941), I'm not sure about the other characters, Edokko or someone else? The gun is the arsenal reworked one, on the inside it is still chock full of cosmoline. Just a beautiful gun.

Remember, just about all original leather holsters for the type 26 have 18 loops in the ammo pouch for ammunition, there is a french holster that is a spitting image of the t26 holster, the main difference being that it doesn't have 18 loops for ammo in the pouch, and it is much lighter construction than the real Type 26 holster. Trey
