Just bought my first T-30 rifle. I've been looking for some time for a nice one & this one looks pretty much like a "beater" at first. Still, it has a nice original brass tipped rod & what I believe is an honest to gosh T-30 sling. I used some Black Rock on the sling last night & what a difference it made! It looks great now! I think between the rod & sling I pretty much got the rifle for free. It had some weird pexiglass extension to the butt & I have a proper butt plate coming. The rifle cleaned up pretty well this morning. The initials on the stock are in black paint & I think they will come off with some careful work. Here's the auction;

I'm glad I hung onto my T-30 muzzle cover and T-30 manual!

Rob, you got a pretty good deal, that rifle don't look so bad. What do you want for the clear acrylic butt extension? Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Trey, you can have it for the price of Priority Shipping. I don't need it & nearly threw it away. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |

Adogs, ya did good. As you know an original cleaning rod is a real score by it self. I see Trey jumped on that stock, he's got a thing for Plexiglas that has been attached to Japanese items. Getting a real collection of the stuff if I might say. Don't forget to get the data to Frank as he is still collecting it up. Any idea on that sling? |

Thanks T-14. I'll try to get a data sheet to Frank this coming weekend. The sling looks much the same as the T-38 slings except that the wire used to make the buckle is thinner and the stud is not as beefy. Also, it has the welted edges that are often seen on early Japanese leather goods. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. Here's the muzzle with the original cover for the T-30 & T-35 rifle. It's about 1/4" shorter than the early T-38 cover. BTW, this muzzle cover is one of the first things designed by Col. Nambu.
Also here is my T-30 manual. It covers the rifle and carbine and is dated Meiji 36. The date actually translates into June 29, 1903. The staple has pretty much disinteregrated but all the pages are intact & it's in remarkable condition for being almost 105 years old.

Rob, I won't go any lower than $7 for the the muzzle cover, rod, sling and manual you have posted there, to save you the trouble, just go ahead and send the rifle with them, that's about as cheap an offer as you'll get.
Seriously, very nice grouping! Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Rob, what's the difference in that sling, and the one we associate with the type I rifles with the welted edges? Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Now, that - I would like to know. Are there any known markings on the T-I slings? It would seem odd to me to have one of these wind up on a T-30. But, who knows? _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |

Rob, none that I know of, usually they have remnants of painted kanji (numbers mostly) on the underside. I think I have some in the 'DoS', I'll wander down there in a bit. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Check the buckle & stud. These are noticeably thinner & wimpier than those used on the T-38 slings. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |
