Hello out there. This is my first shot at one of these forums-so here I go.
I just got a type 44 carbine with the butt plate sliding trap door. I have read that it was for the cleaning rod.
Can anyone out there confirm this for me? If so where can I find a picture of it so that I can start looking for an original.
Thanks

rp....Welcome to the forum, the butt trap is indeed for sectioned cleaning rods, and a jag tip on some models. Please be sure and fill out a Type 44 datasheet and send to Frank Allan. I'll try and post some pictures of the two types of cleaning rods that I have this weekend. Trey

Thanks for the quick reply. I am in the process of filling out the datasheet and should have it done soon. It is a beauty, mint, unissued and appears to be unfired!! The only thing missing that I can see so far is the sling and cleaning rods.

Mine is the First Variation Type, so according to my reaearch I would need two (2) small cleaning rod segments in the butt. Does anyone have them for sale or know of a reliable source for originals?

set on the right is first variation. set on the left....I don't believe is original 'Japanese' Pre-WWII manufacture. Trey
