Hello the group
New member here. I inherited an Arisaka type 38 long gun. It has the cleaning rod, but I'm stumped on how to removed it from the stock. There is a recessed metal piece that appears to be a latch, just forward of the upper sling attachment band which will depress slightly, but this has no effect on releasing the rod. Any advice appreciated.
Thank you.

Rick, A hearty welcome! The band that has the bayonet lug on it, is held on by the spring, that spring also locks the cleaning rod in. Push in, on the spring, and pull the rod out. If the rod will move, back and forth just a little, its probably not rusted in place, if it won't budge at all, that may be your problem. Keep is soaked in wd-40 or penetrating oil until you can get it to move up and down. When it will move, you'll press the spring in, and pull out on the rod. Let me know if that works out. I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

Glad I found this post, we were stumped. Thanks. It's a Nagoya Series 4 carbine with the chrysanthamum(sp?).
