Hello again!
I'm just looking for a bit of clarification on the rifle data sheets. I filled one out for my Type 99 earlier in the year, and mailed it to Trey. Now I got myself a Type 38, and I'm about to mail this one to Frank. What do you guys do with this info? Is there any news about the rifle that gets back to the owner? I guess I have a general idea, that you document manufacturing changes based on series and serial, and things like that. Do you have any idea of manufacture dates? That's one of the things I wonder about, though I know all the actual Japanese records of that were cinderized in 1945. But, do you guys probably have a guess?
Also, in the rare case that we sell a rifle, should that be passed along as well?
still learning,

We record the information from the datasheet to track the production changes so we have a quick reference when working on articles, researching someones suspect rifle, or compiling a book. Frank has finished his type 38 and family book, and Shannon and I are working on our 99 book.
If I see something out of the ordinary on a sheet, I try and contact the sender to confirm or comment. If you ask a question, I try to reply. Many times, I can't quite translate the email address, and sometimes I just plain forget.
When I get the final charts finished, it will serve a two-fold purpose. If all the numbers were filled in on the for mismatches, I can query the database for potential matchups and contact the parties involved. So in this case, it would be good for you to let me know, by email is fine, that "I just picked up series blah, serial #blah type blah rifle from so-and-so". Also a completed sheet, lets me know exactly what bolt is needed or available. I'd know a 272 Type B Jinsen bolt handle does not belong in a Nagoya 0 series #272 rifle so obviously no need to contact the parties involved.
I try to send an email for each new sender, but like this morning, I found a datasheet in the 'office' that had been there 2 months under some 'reference' material. I'm going to start sending an email reply for each datasheet if it kills. me. I've just got to get better at that. If you send me a datasheet and haven't heard from me in 30 days, remind me.

That sort of what I figured, Trey. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't mean to put you on the spot or anything, since I know you are "Mr. Japanese Militaria" and you're gathering info.
It's good to hear that you will help folks with mismatched guns if possible. That's a nice benefit!
When do you think your book will be out? And, how many data sheets to you have now? That's kind of interesting. Do you have many with consecutive numbers?
thanks,
Mark |

Shannon is still out of country for a little while. Probably 18-24 months, about the 3rd time I've said that though. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I kept trying to think why I used 272, still don't know. Just one of those numbers that rolls around him my head, I get a lot of 5's too. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
