|
|
Sorry if I'm getting carried away here. Just let me know if this is too much, or if I should just stick to a single topic.
Anyway, I'm wondering about this stock. I have read this is a "soft, blond Asian wood finished with a reddish brown varnish." Mine has very few dents for a rifle this age, and seems a nearly walnut brown. It actually looks pretty nice. Feels much better than my Type 99 stock, too. What kind of wood is this?
Also, the is the bottom tang attached to the stock with a nail? If so, I don't think I want to remove that, to get to any assembly numbers. Help here would also be appreciated.
TIA

One of these days, I'm going to compile a page and thread on stock wood. Here are a couple of posts on Stock wood and finish, one by Shannon and J Hawk unfortunately the link to the manual translation is broken and one on the 'poison finish'. There should be three screws holding the tangs and triggerguard assembly to the stock, no nails. Two from the bottom, and one from top. Assembly number might be on the inside of the bolt release. I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

There should be 3 screws? I'll see if I can get a picture of my lower tang. I have one lower screw, close to the trigger guard, which may connect to the upper receiver, in the milled slot (I haven't removed it yet). The upper tang does have a screw very near the end (also not yet removed). The end of the lower tang has what appears to be a nail, or possibly a screw head broken off? Have you seen that before?
TIA,

The upper screw goes all the way through the stock in to the lower tang. Here is a picture of a Type 44 carbine with screw placement marked, arrows point to the head (slot) of the screw, but the screws and placement are the same for both. Trey

That's even better! Thanks! I thought you had said the tangs had a total of 3 screws. Clearly, what I'm seeing (and thought might be a nail) is the end of screw #1 in your diagram.
thanks again,

I guess I should have said total of three screws holding tangs and trigger guard assembly to stock. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
