I notice there is a semi-lose fitting ring around the bolt of my Arisaka Type 44 near the front of it. When I pull the handle back it keeps the handle from moving back all the way unless I rotate it to my right (or clockwise) so the bolt can ride all the back to the catch. Is this ring necessary? It appears I can remove it with some work, as it is not a solid circle. Also, when I look at pictures of Type 44s I don't see the ring on the bolt.
Thanks, and sorry for being a newbie with this gun, hah. I am good with my M-16 the Army gives me to shoot...just not these old types

Cole, it sounds like your rifle is missing the extractor, and what you are refering to is the extractor collar. The extractor slides on to the collar from the front. Take a look at this:
The extractor is #5 and the collar is above it on the bolt body. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |
