There are two cutouts just forward of the bolt handle. The longer one
is worn on one end going to the rear of the bolt. What would cause this?
What are these cutouts for? |

Are you talking about where the sear on the firing pin fits? _________________ Most people who preach tolerance are very intolerate. |

I think Chuck is talking about these cutouts. When the trigger is pulled there is a pin that raises & must enter the short slot in the bolt to allow the rifle to fire. This is when the bolt is fully closed - a safety feature. The long slot is to allow for the the pin be able to raise as the bolt is pulled to the rear and the firing pin tail pushes down on the sear and raises the pin. Here's a few photos that may help.

those are the ones. The longer one is wore at one end on my bolt.
I'm thinking that the tigger hung up from being dirty and the pin on
the other stuck up a little to high hanging up on the slot on the bolt. |
