Hey Guys
I'm looking for advice on what to use to clean a sticky grimey 38 rifle stock and not harm the urushi finish. I checked out a sticky article on a different forum on removing a non-original coating and someone stated that denatured alcohol would not harm the original finish.
What would guys recommend for cleaning and after that do you put anything on to preserve the finish ?
Thanks for any help!

JoeJ1947, welcome to the forum. I usually just spray down with WD-40 and wipe off with a soft cloth. If its heavily greased, put it out in direct sun to 'sweat' the extra out, then spray down with WD-40 and rub off. Several light wipe downs gets the grease and grime slowly off without bothering the finish. I hesitate to trust chemicals as regardless of their claims they all say 'test on an inconspicuous place' to see what's really going to happen. Be sure to post before/after pictures. Good Luck. I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |
