I have a customer that has inherited a nice 99 takedown rifle. He wants to know how far in the takedown screw (turns) should go when the rifle is assembled. As it is now it goes about 1 full turn then stops, when disassembled it screws in many turns and this causes him concern. I have never been exposed to many Japanese guns and cannot find much about them, can someone help?? Thanks. A.J. |

If it unscrews and the screw is on the right side, its probably just that he doesn't realize that once the threads are loose, you just pull up on the bail, and that disengages the 'wedge' from the halves, and slide the rifle halves apart. As long as it locks up tight, he's probably doing it right. There is a nipple and cutout where the halves join, this needs to be synced up, (along with the screw in wedge) before tightening. I can better visualize what your talking about if you'll email or post pictures. If you have other questions, let me know. If need, be, I can post some pictures tomorrow night. Let me know. When the halves are together the wedge can only go as far as it takes to tighten the halves. If it turns one round or two makes no difference if it is tight. When the halves are apart the wedge will go all the way in and the nut will screw all the way in. Nothing is wrong with your rifle, thats the way it is made. It was made that way so as the wedge and seats wore it would continue to tighten up. riceone. _________________ Most people who preach tolerance are very intolerate. |

I double checked mine and it only turns about 1 1/8 and that is very tight. Sounds good to go! Daniel |
