Pretty average rubberized pouch. Has what looks like a bullet or shrapnel nick on the lid. The interesting thing is the small screwdriver attached by a length of string. I feel sure this was for arming the T-91 or T-97 grenades. With the string the soldier could keep the tool in his lower tunic pocket & fetch it out when needed. It also would prevent loss. It works the grenade firing pin perfectly.

That's what makes this stuff so neat. I'd have thought the soldier just had a penchant for 'Spam', would have never thought about use with a grenade......Thanks for posting. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

I've already heard this from elsewhere. All tin opening tools I've seen have a slot for winding up the seal strip. This is an honest to gosh screwdriver. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |

I haven't seen a can that opens with a screwdriver before! If there is such a thing I'd like to see it.
Now you made me hungry! Time for lunch anyway! _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |

So, the grenade would not go off if you just pulled the pin and popped the plug, but had to be armed first? |

Yes, the firing pin is threaded with a slotted head. The grenades were shipped with the firing pins backed off for safety. Before action the pins needed to be run in with a tool. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage") |
