Were these Type 99's with the chamber cut for the 30-06 cartridge? How well did they shoot with standard ball ammo? |

Yes, they were standard 99s rechambered for .30-06. I think the bore was a little oversized in comparison to bullet diameter, so I don't know how accurate they were. I haven't shot mine so I can't tell you for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in. Trey
There is an excellent reference with details from the official US Military Handbook Rifle, U. S., Type 99, Japanese Cal. .30, I haven't had a chance to read it yet, my Dad is reading it and my BANZAI (apparently at the same time). Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Just a guess, the M2 Ball bullet might expand like a minie bullet since the base of the jacket is open, exposing the softer lead core. I'm wondering if they might have shot pretty well. |

There is an account of US vs. Korean troops armed with the converted rifles, commander indicated that the koreans held their own until outflanked, so accuracy must have been good. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Im expecting that it would stabalise for accuracy out to 100yds at least, havent had a chance to shoot any to see for sure, might be a fella could simply load a 30-06 case with a .311 bullet if'n he wished, wouldnt be any more than neck sizing it out. But if'n you try it an blow up yer pretty toy, dont go blamin me. |

Dave,
If you want to bring some .30-06 loaded with .308 and some with .311 projectiles to the shootout, I'm bringing a rechambered 99 for test firing and comparison.
I expect at 100 yds or less, there will be little difference! _________________ 03man |

I doubt I find time to run any off...Im backed up as it is.I think I have some 30-06 in the bins tho,if so I will drag that along ,just in case...Ive gotta knuckle down, finish up my current projects, pay off a few debts, and make arrangements for the time off in May,all of a suddent it seems too close for comfort (just over 90 days,98ish till the shootout?). |

I'll bring my rifle too. Maybe a 'shootin competition' is in order involving 7.7 to .30-06 conversions for the guys that can see. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Birmingham AL, and Chattanooga TN I think.
You can fly in to either one, and someone can pick you up.
You can fly in to Birmingham (about 1 1/2 hrs from the shootout) and ride up with me, I'm going up Thursday. I think the Abramson's and Dave Fooce are coming in early and staying at my place for a day or two or so, we'll probably go visit Doss one of those days, then head to the shoot on Thursday. I've got two sleeper sofas and one extra bed, another extra bed if I relocate my little monster. You're welcome to come in early and play with us. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Thanks Trey,
I really think I'd like to make it this year. Be great to meet everyone & to see the great Blevins collection!
