Well I loaded 100 rounds for my Father in laws 38 carbine. I'm going to shoot it tonight. Long story short it is so well balanced and easy to handle if it shoots good I'd like to shoot a mule deer with it next year. Give the 300 mag a rest for a year. It hasn't been shot since the war so It should prove to be an adventure. It does hava a bent bolt so how scare and expensive is the scope and or scope mounts for these rifles? I don't really want to drill and tap the reciever.

If you want a rifle with a scope, better to trade with me for one that has already been 'ruined'.

Bolt can be straightened to just about perfect, I'd get a little closer and use the iron sights, or do like Don says, and trade for one that's already messed up. Trey

Too dark to shoot it tonight but I'll shoot it tomorrow. This gun was brought back from the war with the bolt bent. Hasn't been further than a gun cabinet since. Possible sniper carbine? Would the Japanese bent their own bolts? I'd be interested in just buying one outright if someone had a 38 carbine in good shape with a good bore. I have plenty of other hunting rifles but it would make a fun starter gun for my boy who'll be hunting next year. I'm not gonna drill an tap this one as its got value from the family standpoint. I'm not even sure how the original scope and mounts were mounted if drilling was needed?

As far as we know there were no true, sniper carbines. There are a few around, but they are made up. Jerry Price has a war era picture of what might be one, but its also in the hands of some GIs as war booty and was quite likely manufactured for the souvenir trade. Send me a picture of your rifle, and a rear view of the bolt, if its a sniper bolt, the handle will be a little longer than normal, and bent more at an angle, than down. Trey

I'll do it. Shot 70 rounds though it yesterday. Man what a blast. Very little recoil and accurate. I hate the sights as I was shooting into the sun and found it hard to pick up the front sight with all the reflection off the rear sight. I could hit a two foot 2x4 almost every shot at 100 yards. I was shooting 95 grain Hornady boat tail polymer tips with 39 grains of reloader 15. I didn't have a chronograph but with the carbine short barrel it should have been around 3050 fps. Just crush the cinderblocks we shot at well. I would be interested in another 38 that has been drilled and tapped if someone has one. I like the og stock so I'm not looking for something sporterized with the exception of a scope mount.

I hunted with a carbine my grandad brought back for years, unfortunately, my dad had it converted to 6.5x257 roberts because there were no dies or ammo at the time. I've always liked shooting them, light recoil, and more accurate than I am. My eyesight is not very good, but with dead reckoning and guessing, I can usually stay on an 8.5 x 11 paper with every shot. There is a small chance you have a sniper rilfe bolt in the carbine, but there were no carbines produced in sniper configuration. Send me some pictures when you get a chance of your rifle. Half of the fun of collecting is chewing the fat and sharing the pictures. Trey

I prefer shooting the t-38's to any rifle I own, longs or carbines, tho the little carbines are the best. fitted with a scope the t-38 is a tack driver, tho I like to use 120-140gr bullets, never played with the 95's yet.Ive got to order another batch of brass soon myself,as Ive about loaded all I bought last month, should get some more 7.7 and 7mm while Im at it to stock up on 6.5x57 and T-99 ammo, grafs has had some excellent prices lately on brass and bullets, and that non existant shipping rate is sweet too.If you find one d/t for a scope, sportsmans guide has had some barska 6.5x20's for something like $49 that are sweet .I fitted a couple of mine with them, last month. The bulk remington SP 140's from Midwayusa work excellent in my carbines, and at $14@100 they dont break your bank for plinking ammo.

I have a leoupold markIV 6.5x20 mill dot with a 30mm tube and mill dots looking for a home. I see a scope that mounts to the front sight base. Are these availablefor the t38's. This may replace my savage tactical .223 and my favorite shooter. Actually a nice clear 4x scope would be plenty for this rifle espescially if its going hunting. I'm looking for another clean carbine that is already drilled.
