just thought I would share some pics of the jinsen type 99 I picked up today. number 55238 One of only like four I have seen with the monopod rear band. The other pic is of the wrist stamp on a naval marked type 38 905696 from the kure arsenal. It is the upper mark with the glare around it, the left side of the mark is indistinct.

Very nice, I don't even think any 'b' band rifles have been reported that late. I have a 38 somewhere in that range with same mark. Thanks for posting. Trey

There are several groups of Kure anchor-marked Type 38s made by the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal; one runs from about 980,000 to about 923,900. The other is aqbout 1,024,000 to about 1,024,800. These are not all-inclusive ranges. One "flyer" is 897170.

An interesting item on Mike's Kure-marked rifle is the Japanese character JO (or sho, ue, kami, etc) used as a stock inspection stamp. I've not encountered that stamp previously. I am trying to accumulate a list of partial inspection stamps, especially stock inspection stamps, not listed in The Type 38 Arisaka. If anyone has observed stamps lot listed in the book I would very much like to hear from you.

In your photo, it is about 1 & 1/2" below the anchor. According to my Japanese / English disctonary it is JO. However, there are several possible translations of this character depending upon its usage. Since these inspection stamps - at the time this rifle was manufacutred - were based upon inspector's names, it could be translated several ways. I am hoping that Takehito notices this and comments.
