I recently acquired a Jinsen Type 99, serial number 78764. It does not have all of the parts variations to qualify it as a "Jinsen Special Last Ditch", as collectors label them, but it does have the flat top front sight and no dust cover grooves. One interesting point is that it has an inspection stmap that I have not seen previously. It is stamped on the receiver bridge. Since it was not stamped very well it appears impossible to read the Kanji. Does anyone have a Jinsen with this inspection mark more clearly stamped?

Frank

Frank, isn't that 'J6' on the old sheets or 'hh' on the new? the 'special'/2nd class mark.

Yes it is. I looked at that, but dismissed it too quickly as being different. The central shaft of the right hand portion of the stamp seemed to be straight and therefore different from J6. However, with the "white in" removed there is a slight jinx to the right below the second horizontal line on that side. Hard to describe. With more than 50% of the stamp not appearing on the rifle, it just fooled me.

Data sheet will go out to you in the am on this one.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Frank

Frank, I see the mark on my un-numbered rifle, that is pretty much the whole stamp as far as I can tell. Given the crudeness of most Jinsen inspection stamps, I'd just alway figured it was a simplified 'special' stamp. Anyone else? Trey

I'll meet with several collectors in the area over the next feww days and compare Jinsen T-99s. They really are interesting guns. One I examined yesterday has a Hiragana stamp "to" in the same spot as my Kanji "TOKU" stamp. It is a gun in the 60,000 range. I am wondering if the Hirigana "to" was an early or alternative partial reference to "toku". Hmmmmm......

I'm headed to Roy's for the weekend, I try and take some side by side pictures when I get back. If you've never seen late Jinsens side by side, you can't really have an appreciation for the confusion that Frank and I are talking about. Hopefully the pictures will show what we're going through. Trey
