I am going to set up a display at the Pittsburgh MAX show next month. My theme is Japanese Small Arms. As part of the "background" I plan to include a late war NCO sword. It is the type with the wooden crosshatched carved handle.

My question is what is it's proper nomenclature? And if anybody has an appropriate tassle they would like to trade, sell or lend I would be much obliged.

Thanks, Shannon

Shannon;

It's known as a model 1945 NCO sword in Gregory and Fuller's book. The earlier model was a model 1935. Best way to remember is that they follow the 1934 and 1944 Officer's Shingunto by noe year in model designation.

I've seen several with the standard leather tassel tied to them,some still w/the vets that brought them back,so no shindiggery on this being as-issued.The real tassels are as expensive as the swords themselves,so I'd opt for a Nakata repro.I sold a nice early model NCO for an astounding $595.00 because the tassel was still intact.I can still kick myself for that one though! I'm still looking, these guys, Stewarts Military Antiques were in BANZAI as being exclusive Nakata retailers, they have lots of different repro items, but I didn't see a Tassle listed. I've bought from them in the past. Last purchase was on Monday afternoon, had item by Thursday. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

I looked in Stewart's Military Antiques for sale newsletter last night, they had a few originals listed. You might try calling/emailing them from their website listed in the previous reply. Trey
