Pardon the stupid question.
Just purchased a box of 7.7 ammo for my type 99. Later it came to my mind about the availability of stripper clips. I discussed later it with another owner of a gun shop and familiar with the rifles. He didn't think it was designed that way, had never used clips, always loaded loose ammo, but got to checking and found a set of 5 originally marked 6.5 Japanese ammo all set in a stripper clip. Then we looked at a type 38 he had in the store and he didn't see how it would work (no receiving groove). So we decided someone had made an odd retro fit.
When I got home I looked for a small original ammo pouch to hold "loose ammo" and see that one advertised as an WW2 original is designed to hold the ammo in "stripper clips".
Which is it ??????? |

The 38 and 99 rifles are designed to be loaded with stripper clips.
Easiest ones to find today are those for the Swedish mauser, they work fine in either Arisaka. _________________ 03man |

Thanks 03.
The the lack of a stripper clip loading system would certainly be a disadvantage in combat.
Looking forward to finding a clip and to try it out at least once anyway. |

Theres a cut out in the receiver for it like on most mauser rifles, It doesnt have a charger bridge like a enfield but the notch is just as good, maybe better clip slides in, thumb pressure runs the bullets into the mag, easy as pie, loading one with single rounds would be a real pain in combat, tho its easy enough for a dayat the range ( I still use theclips,Im lazy) |
