You can darken up the recent scratches in the wood with old grease, or furniture scratch and dent polish. You'll be surprised how well it will turn out, and the wood condition will more closely match that of the rest of the rifle. Just my 2% of that dollar though. Trey |
I tried to be subtle about it, its no fun beating someone over the head about something or getting in to an online shouting match. Value wise, is just halved though, at least. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

Yeah, you're right & you did hint at not going this far. Anyway, it's ruined now & I can't cast any stones - I refinished the very first Japanese rifle I ever had. Of course I was about 16 years old at the time. Now I won't even pick up a refinished rifle at gun shows for a looksie. I don't think any single thing hurts the value more than refinishing. _________________ "A woman, a dog & and a walnut tree. The more ya beat em, the better they be" (From "The Red Bagde of Courage")

I'm hesitant to 'fix' anything. I thought long and hard about having the duffle cut on my LOC 38 'fixed'. In the end, I decided to go ahead and do it, I could just see me forgetting and instead of a smashed hand between the barrel band and rear sight, the buttstock hitting the ground and shattering. Same with my 3 digit Izzie 4th series. But again, just my 2%. I'd rather have original and dirty (dirt and grime can always be cleaned off) than stripped and refinished. No matter how hard you try, you can't get it back, just right. John and Roy do very good work, but its still not quite the same as that original finish. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Its looks nice, but, it looks refinished. I liked it much, much better before. You can get close, just stripping and refinishing, but it just doesn't have quite the same look and feel. You did a very nice job though. I really appreciate you sharing the before and after with us, regardless of the comments. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I can agree with you up to a certain point, but for me this carbine looked too much bad when I found it.
I have another Arisaka that I only cleaned. I'll post pictures in another subject. |
