Thanks Trey, fellow on another board asked this question:

I am going to an auction next week and they have advertised a m1903 (type 45)mauser 8mm. I see in Honeycutts book the type 46 and 47.

I think what he is referring to is the Type 46 in the original chambering of 8x50. As you see he called is a 1903 Mauser 8mm.

You are correct. Without going into how this error entered the language the early unaltered Type 46 Simanese Mausers are indeed chambered for the Type 45 cartridge (8x50R). If the Siamese / Thai designation system was extended to retroactively deal with older weapons, the designation for the rifle would be Type 46/45, while the arsenal refurbished and re-chambered Siamese Mausers would be Type 46/66 to indicate the use of the Type 66 8mm cartridge (8x52R). Since the Siamese knew what rifle they were talking about the unofficial shortening of the designation came to be Type 45, but it is NOT strictly correct.

You will see the Siamese Mauser carbines re-stamped "Type 47/66" along with an Army logo rather than the earlier crest of King Chulalongkorn.
