Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, all,
Today I received an Arisaka Type 44 rifle that my grandfather owned. When he died he wanted it given to me since I am in the Army now. I have been looking into what I need to fix it up and my main issue is that the rifle is missing the front bayonet housing that the Type 44 is best known for. Does anyone know where I can find one or have one to sell? I don't really even care to put a bayonet on it right now, mostly I want the housing so the upper and lower handguards are secured better. I have looked all over the internet and it seems like this part is really hard to come by.
Anyone willing to sell can contact me at cole.d.christian@gmail.com.
Thanks yall,
Cole |

Cole, welcome to the forum! You didn't mention which model housing, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. If you can give you your series and serial number we'll know which one you need. See the type 44 data sheet on the datasheet page for more information. Be sure to print one out, fill it out and send to Frank Allan for his research when you get a chance.
Once you know which housing you need, you might try Raymond Labar through his site, Bayonets of Japan. About your only recourse is to set up a watch on ebay and the other auction sites, I think they are running $100-$300 depending on condition. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I see one. thanks for posting. Trey Stancil _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
Fill out a Japanese Rifle Datasheet.
I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

It has no series marking. The serial is 590XX (I put XX because I forgot the last two numbers and I am not home right now). According to this Japanese markings site, my serial number doesn't have a series marking, as supported by the 'T' on the barrel.
Yeah.. I looked around eBay and couldn't find hardly anything for the Type 44. Although, I did find an upper handguard for sale, which is nifty since I see a crack in my upper handguard. I just dunno if this handguard would fit mine due to it being a 2nd variation. If anyone has insight on this it would be cool
Anyways, Gwsii, thanks for the reply. Any help would be appreciated. And I will work on sending in that form. I've come across it several times today and figured I should send it in to be helpful |
