I'm planning to redo my Type-38 junker to look something like a 9th series Izawa:

I'm considering the following:
Chamber it for the 260 Remington,
Shorten the barrel back to 26 inches
Replace the original rear sight with the fixed aperature
Move the barrel band back
Replace the upper hand guard and forend-cap.
I have a 9th series Izawa and really like the configuration for a general utility woods rifle. I added to the front sight to have it hitting to point of aim at 100 yards.
Where can I find a fixed aperature rear sight? |

Smokey, that's a tough one. You almost certainly have to buy at least a barrel with the rear sight attached. You are aware that some of the later type 38s have adjustable peep sights aren't you? I think I have a trainer/ barrel with a fixed peep sight on it I don't think I need. Is that what you're looking for? Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

I take it the fixed aperature rear sight on the later Type-99s does not come off the barrel? I could probably make something up then. Where I live, 100 yards is a long shot, so I don't need a ladder sight.
Your trainer barrel, is it 6.5mm? |

Smokey, I think the barrel is around 6.5, but I'm not sure. Let me see if I can find it and post a picture later tonight. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Smokey, here's the barrel and rear sight, I've got $15 in the lot, it would take about $10 to ship the whole thing, you might be able to make one lots cheaper.

It appears to be, heavier than I expected it to be. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Why?
You can do a lot with T38, but going to a full top handguard with front band? Just too much work for what? Appearance? _________________ 03man |
