cool, learning everyday. Thank you for the information. I figured that it was a release, but this one is kinda stuck in place. Since its the wifes, not mine, I'm not trying to hard on figuring out how it opens.

If its truly functional, and not just there for looks, (there's a wife joke in here somewhere, as I repeated it there was a sharp slap to the back of my head, and it just started hurting) you just push from inside the triggerguard towards the muzzle. Trey

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Sorry to be so late in getting to this post. I haven't been able to ID the maker (NTK/Tokyo) yet, but it's absolutely a training rifle. Not all that common an example either. Thanks for the pix.

Thanks for the input. I know she plans on selling it. But what I appreciate that she won't sell something if she does not know what it is.

Oh yeah, she'll buy things without knowing.... saying "oh, you'll figure it out for me...."

sigh.... Shocked

Forgot to mention that the number "7" stamped on the bolt is an assembly number used to match individual parts, including the bolt, striker, and safety knob.

Please drop me a line when you get around to selling it as I might be interested in it.
