I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

Very rare rifle. I have #15804. Is yours import-marked?

No import markings. It must have been right where I found it for 60 yrs.
It was partially covered on the receiver end.
I hope to repair the stock wrist with a period style repair, clean the chamber/bore, and find an appropriate sling. There is slight pitting under the wood line, but the muzzle is ok.
I believe it might be the lowest serial number of the known examples.
Thanks for the interest.

Sounds almost excatly like mine. Sure wish we could find out how these two got back into the US.

I almost forgot. Cleaning the bore and locating a "period sling" are alright, but IMHO you might want to reconsider repairing the stock. Original (wartime, etc.) repairs are one thing, but post-war modifications will only hurt the value.

Thanks for the advise. I would like to see the data sheet on your rifle. Is it the one in Franks book? ( it is a great book Frank!)
Regarding the stock, Franks book shows a trainer with a brass plate type repair .
I would like to see any pics of period style repairs on these stocks.
Even though the history of this rifle is great , it is not my particular area of interest. I don't want to make any mistakes.
Also, if anyone has a type 30 bolt marked 340, please let me know.
Regards, Wilbur |

I'd leave the stock as is, once you change it, its no longer original and while its a functional sort of repair, it would detract more than the cracks. To the best of my knowledge those with the plates are almost always on import marked rifles. Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
