Ok, so I'm (slowly) working my way through my 99s filling out the data sheets. I'm working on what I think is a late (75770) series 25

The few numbers all seem to match (receiver, bayonet lug, bolt handle, safety)

When I go to id the rear band

It looks like a G.

This appears to be a vet bring-back (I bought it as such)

And given the lack of import mark and quantities of old grease - it seems right. Also, it has a type B receiver (which I didn't take a picture of - but I can) with full mum. According to Voigt, this shouldn't be.

The inspection mark on the bolt handle looks almost double struck

And there is no assembly number

Finally to stock is very rough to the point of being crude.

I just want to check and see if I'm reading the rifle right.

Nice rifle and that does look like a 'G' band, does it have a rim around the screw head on the right side? Regardless I think, it should be an 'F'. Any inspection marks on it? Trey

There is no rim on the screw hole on the other side. The only inspection marks I could find were behind the arsenal mark and on the bolt handle. None at all on the stock which is a very rough shaped blank. I think that is was an outsourced one that never got finished up and was used as it was - therefore no marks.

I noticed that I did make a mistake. I meant that the G shouldn't be - the type B receiver should be the norm (based on my reading of the book).

Can you take a picture of the other side of the band? I figured you meant 'G' band out of the ordinary and 'B' receiver proper. I couldn't look at the enlarged pictures at work, but can now, I like the writing on the barrel, that is great! Picked up in a warehouse that wasn't 'raided' until after the war when souvenir restrictions (mum grinding) were relaxed I'd bet.....Trey

And I remembered to get one of the top of the receiver

Everything looks so right for a late, untouched rifle. Even the presence of the mum speaks of the later lack of grinding fitting the bring back date. But this band through me. I argued with myself over what is was - you should see my notes. Since I didn't buy it as matching rifle, but as a vet bring back, its not like I'm trying to justify that this right. It's just that when everything else is, this part not being is rather surprising.
