Some time ago someone sent Doss some low-quality photos of an Evans Repeating Rifle with an anchor and a probable Japanese character on top of the receiver or barrel. Doss "disremembers" who sent it.
If you sent these to Doss can you please contact me, as this rifle fits into the research now going on regarding weapons imported into Japan during the approximate period of 1850-1900. I need some details from the rifle and hopfully some better pictures.

Hi Frank,
The kanji appears to be "海", a possible abbreviation for the Navy.
