pretty neat! Welcome to the forum, got this from jcb, he may be along later...
Quote: | Trey, This is not a mortar shell but a Japanese navy practice smoke bomb/marker. This is a good item. Not rare but in better than average shape.... |
Then a follow up...
Quote: | I don't know from memory the Type or model, I don't have access to my ord manuals at the moment. ... carefully unloosen the three set screws and remove the head from the tin body. Make sure this is empty. Originally these contained a phosphorus charge for creating smoke. |
Is it ok if I scavenge the pics for an article for BANZAI? Should be able to get a translation from there.
Thanks for posting, Trey _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

If you have some with the bomb on a more neutral background, and a clearer one of the writing on the white label that would help. Send to my email address in the link below. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Here are pic from inside. Is it inert? Little bit of debris in base of tail cone, but that's it.

From TallTeri at NambuWorld...
Quote: | The red tag says
“Caution. If the bomb is not dropped, before removing the bomb from the dropping device the safety pin must be re-inserted.”
It seems like these red tags usually say a slight variation on this, depending on whether it is a grenade, bomb or whatever.
A bomb that looks like this one is shown on p. 41 of Jerry Price’s “Japanese WWII signal/ smoke/illumination ordnance” book. The red tag on his is a little different, though. It talks about landing without dropping the bomb. |

Be careful with your listing, sometimes Ebay indiscriminately removes auctions due to content, if that happens, try gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!
