This is a bright blade Nagoya bayonet, I don't see a lot of them in good shape. It is JB 75 according to Japanese Bayonets by Larry Johnson. The series mark on the pommel indicates the 45th series, with a serial number of 2121, so if series mark and serial number are put together, 4502121 is the complete serial number. I'm not sure I like that designation though. I prefer bayonet 2121 from the 45th series.
If you look closely, you'll see imperfections in the arsenal mark stamp. I guess the die was bad.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!

Nice bayonet Trey. I agree with the serial number seperate from the series. Now you need the blued blade variation which is a bit more difficult to find.

Jareth, thank you for the compliment. I'm going through my bayonets for inventory purposes. Takehito had sent me a spread sheet of how he catalogs his bayonets, and I sort of liked the way it was layed out. I started doing mine in a similar fashion once I figured out how to read the hiragana and translate it into 'southern barbarian' (Namban). I have some blued Nagoyas, but I don't know what series' and whether or not any have the bad die strike. Trey

I have one example of a bright Nagoya and one blue Nagoya. The bright blade is a series 40 #75055 and the blue blade is a series 49 #14411.

Rob those are nice looking bayonets!

I've gone through a few more, Nagoya with blued blades, I have:
47th series 50088
49th series 10462 and 21285
and one more that is minty, but the pommel is beat all to hell, I can't see the series mark and can only make out 354 of the serial number. I don't know if they are the first numbers or the last numbers of the serial number, but it is a pretty one except for that. Trey

Thanks Trey,
The bright one is pretty well in mint condition. It came with a like condition 28th series Nagoya T-38 (#365). I bought it about 10 years ago from a dealer that just got it & another rifle from the vet that brought it back. Wish I'd have asked for bringback info! Did get the bayonet & rifle for $265! Very Happy

Here's another bright blade Nagoya Type 30 Bayonet. It does not, have a series mark preceding the serial number, so I guess it makes it earlier than the previous one. They are quite different in design and markings. Note difference in Fuller (blood groove) design, arsenal die stamp and the difference in the inspection marks on the pommel. Each bayonet's pics are beneath the shot of the pommel serial number. Any comments?

You must, absolutely, sell me your "no-series" bayonet as soon as possible! Shocked

Thought you were part of a 12 step program to get a house and getting out of the 'business' temporarily? Duly noted....Trey

I'm not getting out of the hobby, I'm just downsizing & generating funds to pay off some nagging debt & hopefully, land this house. I still might pick up an item here & there.

Been there, done that, will probably be doing it again. The last two pistols I bought, I only held on to for a few hours, got rid of them before I got too attached to them....

Yep, these boards are like an AA meeting where you go to brag about your latest binge! Embarassed
My new (non all Nagoya) direction has let me put together this nice selection of the three main T-44 variations. Here is a Tokyo, a Kokura & a Nagoya. I still love this stuff!

Very nice, if they ever need a new home, let me know, I have a special place for these unique cavalry rifles. Trey

I did just sell an early Nagoya 2nd series #723. Hated to part with it as it came from the late Ike Kessler collection. I'll be hanging onto these three. The top & bottom ones still have their rods in the butt trap.

I was wondering about the shape of the fullers on the non-series marked blade, and how it reminds me of the fullers that you seen on trainers. I wonder if Nagoya made the training bayonets first, then got in to 'production' bayonets for a small 'test' run and just kept the same fuller design. Ray, you need to make sure that Martha addresses that in her book.... Wink Trey
